| Suzanne Fine Regional Cuisine |
The landmark Townsend home, built in 1903, has been gently and carefully transformed into a restaurant by Robert and Suzanne Stack. Two downstairs lake-facing rooms have been converted into one cozy ten table dining room with panoramic views of Seneca Lake, while the more private library with its table for ten not only has water views but a wall of 300 cookbooks and another with shelves housing Suzanne's collection of Provençal pottery. Parties of eight or ten also have the option of dining at the 9 foot farmtable handcrafted from 100 year old pine. This is set in a room adjoining the main dining room and offers privacy as well as country elegance. Four bistro tables on the front porch afford diners a chance to savor both Suzanne's signature regional dishes and lake breezes.
Diners are invited to enjoy the beauty of the 100-acre farm as well. There's a gazebo sitting alongside a lovely pond, a brook that winds through the property and three barns in excellent condition; all beckon during a post- or pre-dining stroll around the grounds of the old peach orchard. |

Aurora Inn
Originally named Aurora House, the Aurora Inn was built in 1833 by Colonel E. B. Morgan, a native of Aurora and original investor in The New York Times. By the mid-19th century, Aurora became a major stop on the Erie Canal for boats carrying agricultural products from area farmers to New York City. Henry Wells, of Wells Fargo stagecoach fame and the founder of American Express, established Wells College there in 1868. Set on the shores of Cayuga Lake amidst a tiny, heritage village in the heart of the Finger Lakes, the Aurora Inn has a pedigree dating back to 1833. The original Finger Lakes inn, built in the Federal style with red brick and wide columned balconies, has now been impeccably restored with understated elegance to appeal to today’s most discerning guests. The Aurora Inn has all the intimacy of a bed and breakfast with services and amenities that only a luxury hotel can offer.
Whether dining indoors in their elegant dining room or enjoying lake side dining on the beautiful veranda, the Aurora Inn is the best restaurant in the Finger Lakes for waterfront dining and spectacular sunsets. Their award-winning cuisine is classic American country fare, inspired by the changing seasons and fresh regional products, perfect when paired with one of the many Finger Lakes wines on their list.

throw away from this restaurant. There is a picture of him in the foyer, astride his 1919 Harley Davison. He was the kind of man who helped his neighbor put the roof on his barn, respected his elders, and didn’t “cuss” in front of women or children. He met his bride-to-be at a Sunday afternoon Strawberry Festival, took pride in his work, played poker at the firehouse once a month, grew his own vegetables, kept a few chickens, enjoyed an occasional glass of Irish Whiskey “neat,” and loved a good thick, juicy steak. He strived to be the “best” at whatever he did.
Those of us who serve you at the John Thomas Steakhouse also want to be the best. That is the reason we “dry age” our extra-extra quality beef. Most places say that their beef is aged when it is one or two weeks old. We’ve found that super quality beef continues to improve for four, five, six weeks. Like great wines that improve over time, great beef gets sweeter, more tender, and acquires a taste that cannot be duplicated, except with proper age. Our kind of beef is extremely expensive. We pay more in the beginning, it loses twenty percent of its weight in the aging cooler, and then we have to trim it. And the meat, meanwhile, demands special care; each piece must be stored in specially refrigerated meat coolers that maintain specific humidity, temperature, and air circulation.
We promise to prepare your steak to perfection. If it is not done exactly as ordered, we will immediately replace it. We want you to leave our table with a smile.
